A masjid is a place of communal prayer — its primary function is the five daily prayers and the Friday khutbah. A zawiyah shares that spirit of devotion but serves a broader purpose: it is a centre for spiritual development, learning, pastoral care and community life. Where a masjid gathers people for worship, a zawiyah gathers people around a path — nurturing character, deepening knowledge and building the kinds of bonds that sustain a community beyond the prayer mat.

Many in our community are navigating real difficulties — isolation, anxiety, disconnection from faith, a lack of culturally appropriate support — without anywhere that truly understands them. Mainstream provision does not always offer environments that feel comfortable or appropriate for Muslim families. A zawiyah fills that gap. It is a space rooted in Islamic values, led by people who understand the community from the inside, and designed to nurture the whole person — spiritually, mentally and socially.

Not at all. While zawiyahs are historically associated with Sufi teaching and practice, ours is open to everyone. You do not need to follow a particular path, identify as a Sufi or have any prior knowledge to benefit from what we offer. Our programmes in education, wellbeing and community connection are designed for the whole community. Those who are drawn to the spiritual dimension of what we do are warmly welcomed to explore it — but it is never a condition of attending.
